City of Moreton Bay is responsible for maintaining the canal system at Newport Waterways. The tides carry sediment from Deception Bay and the greater Moreton Bay area into the canal system. Council carries out regular dredging to remove the built-up sediment so we can continue to safely enjoy the canals. In mid2025, dredging works will be undertaken in several locations within the canals.
