NWPOA CONSTITUTION

Newport Waterways Canal Property Owners Association was established in 1985 to promote the interests of residents living in the Newport estate. The first General Meeting was held on the 22nd April 1985, and the Association became incorporated on January 17th, 1986.

Now called the Newport Waters Property Owners Association (NWPOA), membership is open to owners of residential property blocks within the estate – both wet and dry.  A membership has one full voting right per property. The financial year of the Association is from July 1st to June 30th.

NWPOA’s Role

Some issues addressed since inception include:
  • promote equitable property valuation and rating structure
  • provide input to Moreton Bay Regional Council regarding canal maintenance
  • consult with Moreton Bay Regional Council in regards to their works program and other matters affecting the Newport estate
  • instigating monitoring of canal water quality
  • publish the regular Newport Newsletter covering issues affecting local residents
  • welcome new residents and encourage social interaction
  • promote local security and aid in the prevention of criminal activity
  • to maintain levy charges at a reasonable and equitable level
  • instigate main channel and canal dredging
  • other miscellaneous issues
