Sediment Sampling - Newport Canals

Letter from City of Moreton Bay

Good afternoon

Please note that our Consultants  – Water Technology (and their sub-consultant HydroBiology) are expected to undertake sediment sampling field investigations in the Newport canal system and entrance channel in the week commencing 26 January.

The work will be conducted from a small workboat, and is not expected to disrupt normal recreational boating in the canals.

The work is scheduled to take 2-3 days to complete (weather permitting).

The following is a list of those areas where the sampling field work will take place.

  • Albatross Canal (Upper zone, near Ashmole Road)
  • Sandpiper Canal
  • Falcon Canal
  • Hawk Canal
  • Jabiru Canal
  • Southern Marina
  • Skua Canal
  • Curlew Canal
  • Walkers Creek
  • Entrance Channel (offshore)

This work is not related to the current maintenance dredging works in the canal system, but is in fact related to the planning and design of the next dredging campaign.

Do let us know if you have any queries.

Best regards

Jeremy
